FORT MADISON - Old Fort Madison is hosting it’s first event for the 2023 season on Memorial Weekend.  Muster On The Mississippi is a military timeline event covering the span of history from ancient times until today.  Reenactors will portray different periods including Rome, Dark Age s Anglo-Saxon Medieval England, 16th-17th Century Ireland War of 1812, American Civil War, WW 1 & WW 2 and the Modern Day Soldier. They will be present to explain soldier’s daily lives, clothing, equipment and weapons.
Join Old Fort Madison staff & volunteers and the North Lee County Historical Society for a Memorial Day service on the Fort Madison Battlefield at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 29. The service will be accompanied by three shots from Old Fort Madison's howitzer cannon.  The Old Fort will be open from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Monday.
“We’ve been working extremely hard to get the Fort ready for the tourist season. I’m excited to start marketing Old Fort Madison and the great events that will be hosted there this summer," said Fort Madison Tourism Director Chi Eastin.
"We’re also hopeful that the area’s residents will come and tour the Fort and bring their families and friends.  That is a great way to help support the Fort if they weren’t able to volunteer or give a donation.”
This event is ran by Old Fort Madison.  If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Eugen Watkins at drwatkins1813@gmail.com
