FORT MADISON - Looking for some place for lunch or something to do this Saturday after the Tri-State Rodeo Parade?
Old Fort Madison Preservation, Inc. (OFMP), the local nonprofit dedicated to rebuilding and reviving Old Fort Madison and constructing a new Living History Center, has an idea – head down to the fort replica in Riverview Park.
There, after the parade Saturday, one can grab a bite at Louiez Food Trailer that serves up “classic comfort food with a twist,” such as Chicken Hamilton, birria tacos (beef or chicken), butter chicken naan tacos, pork loin tacos, and ultimate grilled cheese and loaded tots.
Also at the fort that day, one will find members of another local entity, the Standing Bear Council, that is committed to promoting awareness of Native American culture and educating others as to their history and community traditions.
The Standing Bear Council will give presentations 12-4 p.m. Saturday at Old Fort Madison. Also, during this time, there will be limited tours of the fort site, a free hatchet throwing activity and the opportunity to purchase a variety of OFMP merchandise, including the remaining 2026 Limited Edition Old Fort Madison Puzzle, for $25.
Other OFMP merchandise for sale will include t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, sweatshirts, coffee cups, ball hats, canvas bags, framed color photos of fort reenactments, and copies of Michael Killoren’s latest book, “Green Mountain Patriot: Alpha Kingsley’s Journey into History,” available in both hardcover and paperback.
All purchases must be made with cash or checks made payable to OFMP.
