FORT MADISON - According to Fort Madison Fire Chief Chad Hannum, local first responders are still actively looking for the sole occupant of a boat that capsized Saturday night in an area possibly north of where the Skunk River enters the Mississippi River.
Few details are available, but Hannum said  crews are actively searching the river and nearby islands for what is believed to be a lone occupant of the boat. No name has been released as of Sunday afternoon, and no cause of the accident has been made available.

Lee County Sheriff Elliott Vandenberg said  LCSO deputies, along with Fort Madison Fire, Keokuk Volunteer Corp., and DNR conservation officers are involved in the search. There is also a K9 officer being utilized to scour one of the nearby islands.
Hannum said emergency crews will remain committed to the search throughout the day.
Updates will be provided as they become available.
