Pen City Current obituary - Daniel J. Peitz, 73, West Point

Daniel Joseph Peitz, born on March 11, 1952, in Iowa to Richard Peitz and Myrtle Brinkschroeder, passed away on March 9, 2026, at The Birdhouse Hospice in Iowa City, Iowa. He grew up in West Point, Iowa, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in 1970.
Daniel went on to pursue higher education, earning a degree in Business at Iowa Wesleyan College. He dedicated 35 years of his career to Paces Medical Equipment as a biomedical engineer before retiring in 2023. Additionally, he showcased his skills as a manufacturing and prototype machinist at G & E. Following his retirement, Daniel embraced a new chapter of life in Hawaii, enjoying the relaxed lifestyle and becoming what he affectionately referred to as a “beach bum.”
In 2015, Daniel married his loving wife, Yuanping "Laura" Cui. He had a deep appreciation for motorcycles, particularly Harleys and Triumphs, relishing every opportunity to ride. His passions extended to music, art, and playing the guitar, all of which enriched his life.
Daniel is survived by his beloved wife, Laura; his children, Paula (Clint) Hall, Scott (Jennie) Peitz, Eric (Karen) Peitz, and Heather (Brian) Schmuecker; his step-daughter, Rachael Du; and his cherished grandchildren, Tyler Hall, Hunter (Nyssa) Hall, Tucker Peitz, Brodie Meyer, Adalyn Meyer, Michael Peitz, Mathew Peitz, and Lily Peitz. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Hudson Hall and Huntlee Hall.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife Kathy, his niece Miranda, and his brother-in-law Bob Kennedy. He is remembered fondly by his siblings, Diane (Dick) Jennings, Randy (Pam) Peitz, Mark Peitz, Cindy Kennedy, Alan (Monica) Peitz, David (Lori) Peitz, Doug (Deeanna Boyle) Peitz, and Susan (Rob) Gruner, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Daniel will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, kindness, and adventure will continue to inspire those left behind. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., at Sonny's Other Side, 325 - 5th St., West Point, Iowa.
