With great sadness we announce the passing of our brother Douglas Martin Decker at home. He left us on 7/26/26 at the age of 68. Doug was born 7/1/1958 in Fort Madison, Iowa. He was a much-loved brother, Uncle and friend.
Doug was in the Class of 1976 at Fort Madison High School and went on to work in construction for most of his life with a broad knowledge in many fields. He was an avid collector of many things and was often found at local Auctions. He also loved searching out Indian artifacts like arrow heads, finding rare coins everywhere he went, and Mushroom hunting.
Doug was an encyclopedia of local knowledge and loved to trade information about genealogy and the history of Fort Madison and all the surrounding counties with anyone who was interested. He was a great lover of dogs and in more recent years took Foxy everywhere he went. They were often seen zooming around town on his beloved electric bicycle.
He is survived by his siblings: Mary Rose (Dale) Starr, Robert Joseph (Tammy), Gerilyn Mae (James) Gardner, Lyndon Henry (Karen), Andrew Leroy, and John Gerard (deceased). Doug has 14 nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents: Rose Ellen (Nooning) Decker and Myron Martin Decker, and one brother: John Gerard Decker.
