FORT MADISON – Fort Madison Police Chief Cody Potthast said authorities are still investigating a shooting in March that claimed the life of a 16-year-old Fort Madison boy.
Potthast wrote in an email Saturday that the investigation is awaiting analysis from the Iowa Crime Lab on several items connected to the case.
He said a press release will be made available when additional information is obtained by the department.
The shooting took place in the early morning hours of March 12 at a home on 10th Street across from Central Park in Fort Madison.
The boy died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Officials have said there was no threat to the general public.
Fort Madison Police, along with Lee County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, have been working on the investigation. Lee County EMS Ambulance assisted at the scene.
An autopsy was conducted, but details of that report have not been released to the public. No charges have been filed in connection to the shooting.
Authorities responded to the incident reported across the street from the park on 10th Street near St. John's Church and found the subject of the shooting with a gunshot wound. He was transported by Lee County EMS and was pronounced dead.
