The Potowonok Circle of King’s Daughters is a non-denominational Christian service organization whose creed is “Lend a Hand.” This group of women are very actively involved in serving the Fort Madison Community and surrounding areas through things such as Meals on Wheels, conducting vision screenings at area preschools in Fort Madison and West Point and assisting with kindergarten round-up at Holy Trinity Elementary, as well as funding scholarships to assist women attending college at SCC.
The group also adopts a family or two each year who may have fallen upon hard times and help them through it by providing assistance with utilities, food, gas for their vehicles, gifts at Christmas and other needs that may arise during the year.
They support Camp Lookout financially as well as helping with duties and needs that arise throughout the year. They sent seven underprivileged children to camp this past summer. Every year their project committee researches the needs of our area and directly provides funds or goods to help meet those needs. In the past, they have helped with things such as the Community Thanksgiving, the United Way, Christmas for Kids, Central Park summer band concerts, FM Area Arts Association Art Camp for Kids, donated to the Eichacker Community Service Center, purchased a washer and dryer installed in FMHS along with a supply of detergent for use of students in need, among others! How can you “Lend a hand?” By joining them for dinner on March 11th!
