LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Reader says look behind the noise in primary

Dear Editor:
As the daughter of Tom Schulz, I wanted to share my perspective on the man I have watched dedicate so much of his life to serving the people of Lee County.
My father has spent years serving this community through his service on the city council and as County Supervisor. To him, public service has never been about politics or recognition. It has always been about the people of this community and doing what he believes is best for the residents of Lee County.
What many people may not see are the long days, the phone calls at all hours, the conversations with residents, and the constant willingness to show up whenever someone needs help. My father genuinely cares about this community. He listens, wants to understand people’s concerns, and works hard to help wherever he can.
His work ethic has always amazed me. He works tirelessly running his business, supporting his family, and still finds time to serve others. If someone needs help, he shows up. If there is a problem, he wants to solve it. That is simply who he is.

Public service is not easy, and over the years I have watched my father face criticism that would make most people throw their hands up and walk away. Despite that, he continues to step forward, show up, and serve even the ones who criticize him, simply because he truly cares about this county and the people who live here. To me, that says far more about his character than anything written online about him ever could.
Many people may wonder why my father continues to step forward despite the challenges that come with public service. The answer is simple: he truly loves this community and wants to continue serving the place and people he cares so deeply about.
To many people, he may simply be a name on a ballot. To me, he is the father who taught me the value of hard work, kindness, forgiveness, resilience, and serving others. He is a proud grandfather and role model to his grandson, a devoted husband who loves his wife fiercely, and a man who genuinely wants what is best for the people of Lee County.
As voters make their decisions, I hope they look beyond the noise and see a man who has devoted years of his life to serving this community and caring about the people who call it home.

Sincerely,
Sarah Harworth
