Reader sees path to authoritarianism

Dear Editor;

What we’re finding out is that Musk’s firing (and sometimes re-hiring) federal workers is not saving us money, but rather costing us money. The same can be said for the mass deportations and the military flights associated with them. Meanwhile, crops rot in the fields for lack of farm workers to harvest them. ICE has chased them off the farms. The Trump administration’s goal seems pretty obvious; degrade the government and impede its functioning, then make the claim that the government can’t work, and finally propose privatization as a solution. Thus, we would have more wealthy people making money off programs a properly functioning government could run better with more efficiency. This would result in more transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the top 5 percent. This increase in income inequality would further destabilize the government, making it easier still to slide into authoritarianism. Trump is destroying our country, and some of you are cheering him on. You will reap what you have sown, both now and in the future. You’ve sold your children’s future down the drain. Hope it’s worth it.
