NEW LONDON – Carter Jones shot an even par 36 to lead Central Lee at a New London dual Monday night.
The red hot Hawks again had five golfers under 40 with Hayden Welch just missing at 41 with the top four figuring in the scoring.
In addition to Jones 36, Kaden Swan came in with a 37, Carson Morrison shot a 38, and Caleb Larson and Mylan Lowenberg each finished with 39s to give the Hawks a 150 total.
New London was led by Archer Bonnesen’s 40 enroute to a 183.
For the girls, Central Lee carded a 270 led by Ava Derr’s 60. Makayla Mertens shot a 64. New London won with a 225 led by Katelyn Allen’s 47. The Hawks are playing in the Lee County Tournament at Sheaffer's in Fort Madison Wednesday.
HTC boys win tiebreaker in golf triangular
NEW LONDON - Max Kruse shot a 41 to lead HTC to a 184 tiebreaker win at New London Tuesday night. Zane Houtz shot a 47 and Blake Mohrfeld and TJ Gendron each carded a 48 to give the Crusaders a win.
Holy Trinity tied with Danville but the fifth players' scores determined the win and the Crusaders' Jameson Denning shot a 53, while Danville's Grant Langan had a 58.
HTC girls just miss at Mepo
MEDIAPOLIS - Callie Kruse was medalist with a 47 Monday night in Mediapolis. Elizabeth Griffin shot a 52, while Emma Mohrfeld carded a 56 and Eva Denning had a 59 to give the Crusaders 214, just three shots off the Bullettes' 211.
Wischmeier led Mediapolis with a 51.
The boys lost 186-163, led by Brock Scheetz's 43. Max Kruse carded a 46, Nathan Box had a 48, and Blake Mohrfeld had a 49 for HTC.
Central Lee boys fall to Mepo
MEDIAPOLIS - Central Lee boys lost to Mediapolis 3-1 Tuesday night in Mediapolis.
Jaedin Oglesby had the lone goal for the Hawks who fall to (4-2, 1-1 SEISC)
The Bulldogs scored with 9:30 left in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the half and Oglesby tied things up 36 seconds into the second period.
But Mediapolis would respond quickly with another goal just two minutes later to retake the lead. They would score again to set the final with about eight minutes left. Tristan Robins had four saves in the game. Oglesby’s goal was unassisted.
Central Lee hosts Wapello on Friday night at Central Lee High School.
Central Lee boys run at WACO
WAYLAND – The 4x100 team of Brett Cook, Ward Fraise, Luke Kruse, and Austin Fogarty took first place at the WACO Invitational Tuesday night with a time of 3:43.90. The 4x200 team that included Kruse and Fraise, along with Blake Davis and Kain Arrowood, also captured first place at 1:36.84.
Other top performers included Evan Fogarty in the 100 with a 12.17, good enough for runner-up. Cook had a 55.41 in the open 400, also good enough for 2nd place, and Austin Fogarty ran a 1:00.49 in the 400 hurdles for second.
Arrowood was third in the long jump, while Jack Benner took 3rd in the shot and discus. The distance medley team of Micah Ashmore, Odin Mullins, Kelton Hetrick, and Kyler Mulligan was third at 4:40.66.
Fort Madison boys lose to MP
MOUNT PLEASANT – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds were shut out Monday night at Mt. Pleasant in a battle of Southeast Conference frontrunners.
The two teams were tied atop the conference before the meet, but the Panthers came away with a 6-0 win to take sole possession.
Keelynd Ross had six saves in the loss. Fort Madison (5-2, 3-1 SEC) hosts Fairfield Thursday night.
