FORT MADISON - Holy Trinity’s girls basketball team could feel how close the postseason was after Tuesday’s 59-21 win over Central Lee.
“The (regional) pairings are coming out soon, so we’re excited to see those, and see what we can do coming up,” senior Mary Kate Bendlage said.
The Crusaders’ regional road won’t have too many familiar faces.
Holy Trinity is one of only three SEI Superconference teams in the Class 1A Region 8 pairings, released Wednesday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Pairings for 1A, 2A and 3A were announced Wednesday, with 4A and 5A pairings yet to be determined.
The Crusaders (16-2) open regional play on February 8 at home against New London (1-17). Holy Trinity swept the Tigers this season, winning 68-24 on December 8 and 65-22 on January 19.

Six Superconference teams — Notre Dame, Danville, Lone Tree, Winfield-Mount Union, Wapello and Highland — are in Region 7.
Central Lee (5-13) opens Class 3A Region 1 play on February 10 with a quarterfinal matchup on the road against Mediapolis (14-3). Mediapolis won 84-25 over Central Lee on November 28. The two teams play a makeup game on February 6 at Central Lee.
The winner of the February 10 quarterfinal plays at Mediapolis on February 14 against either Tipton or West Liberty in the semifinals.
The other side of the region bracket has No. 2 Mount Vernon playing host to Anamosa and Camanche playing at Davenport Assumption on February 10, with a semifinal between the winner of those two games set for February 14 at Mount Vernon.
