FORT MADISON – Fort Madison Public Library is pleased to announce that the Carole Wallis Sandrock estate has create a fund, currently held at the Quad Cities Community foundation, to benefit the library.  While the exact amount of the annual dispersal is not currently know at this time, the library could receive as much as $90,000 from this fund annually.  A donation of this size will significantly enhance the library’s ability to serve the citizens of Fort Madison and rural Lee County, especially in providing programs and materials. This transformative gift will help the library continue to fulfill its mission to provide valuable resources and learning opportunities for all members of our community.
“We are incredibly grateful for this substantial gift, which will provide a consistent fund for library materials and allow us to expand and improve programs, especially those serving children and older adults,” said Library Director, Sarah Clendineng. “The support of Carole Wallis Sandrock is a testament to her commitment to fostering community growth and learning. With this donation, we are confident we will continue to serve as a great resource for all residents.”
However, this donation does comes with specific restrictions regarding its use. The funds are designated exclusively for programs and initiatives that promote hands-on patron learning and experiences with the library and its services, so people can make the most of their library visits. These restrictions ensure that the donation will be used in alignment with the donor’s intent, while continuing to benefit the library’s mission.
“We want to be transparent with our community about the purpose of this donation,” said Sharon Groene, library board president. “While the funds will not be available for general operating costs, including staffing, the board will direct their use to provide direct benefit to library patrons through programming and resources.”
The library will continue to work with city leaders and community stakeholders to ensure that the full value of this donation is realized and that it contributes meaningfully to the library’s mission to provide materials and resources to support residents in lifelong learning, as they explore new interests and ideas.
