Joseph Dale Cannizzaro, 91, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 5:30 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2025 , at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
He was born on November 17, 1933, in Nauvoo, Illinois, the son of Mateo and Ila (Roost) Cannizzaro. On July 3, 1960, he married Barbara Symmonds at the Nauvoo United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Barb; two sons: Richard (Laurie) Cannizzaro of Parker, Colorado, and Andy Cannizzaro of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren Matthew (Sara) of Parker, Colorado, Olivia of Aurora, Colorado, Owen of Marion, Iowa and Addison of Marion, Iowa; great grandchildren Ry and Pax of Parker, Colorado; brother, John (Doris) Cannizzaro of Placentia, California. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jim Cannizzaro and grandson, Randy Cannizzaro.
Dale graduated from Nauvoo High School. He retired from the Illinois Department of Conservation at the Nauvoo State Park. He served on the Nauvoo City Council, the Nauvoo Park District Board and coached Little League. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Cubs, and the Fighting Illini. Dale received the 1980 Illinois Park Ranger of the Year Award.
His body has been entrusted to Schmitz-Banks & Beals for cremation.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Nauvoo City Cemetery with full Military Rites by Hancock County Honor Guard.
Memorials have been established in his memory for D.A.V. Disabled Veterans.
