Edith Arlene Evans Hemmings, 94, of rural Farmington, Iowa, passed away at 6:47 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2026 at her home.
She was born on September 17, 1931 in Farmington, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest “Ernie” and Vera (Stansbury) Evans. On September 18, 1949, she married Willard Wesley Hemmings at the First Baptist Church, in Farmington. He preceded her in death on February 4, 2008.
Survivors include her three sons: Dean (Charry) Hemmings of Melbourne, Australia, Roger (Beth) Hemmings of Elkhart, Iowa, Keith (Susan) Hemmings of Farmington, Iowa; one daughter Nancy (Alan) Helfinstine of Wappapello, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; and one niece Patty Wooten of Nixa, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Willard; one sister; two great grandsons; and two nephews.
Edith was a member of the First Baptist Church in Farmington. She was thankful to have served the Lord with forty years of service as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington with the family not present.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2026 at the First Baptist Church in Farmington.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2026 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Chad Welch officiating.
Burial will be in Sharon Church Cemetery, rural Farmington.
