Sandra “Sandy” Neuweg Hamm, passed away peacefully at 4:48 a.m. Sunday August 23, 2026 in San Antonio, Texas, with her loving son Joe holder her hand.
She was born on May 22, 1948 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Albert John and Juanita (Blacksmith) Neuweg. She grew up on the family farm doing chores before school with her seven siblings. Sandy learned hard work early on, helping with whatever needed done.
Survivors include her son Joe (Stephanie) Hamm of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren: David, Brooklyn, Jackson, and Clayton Hamm, Katie, Reuben, and Marcus Morales; one great granddaughter Kailana Azalea Morales; and six siblings: Michael (Marija) Neuweg of Austin, Texas, Linda (Dave) Korte of Bowling Green, Missouri, Bill (Kathy) Neuweg of West Point, Iowa, Adrienne (Terrell) Wilson of Houghton, Iowa, Roger (Kay) Neuweg of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Randy (Jan) Neuweg of St. Paul, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Larry; daughter Tara Morales; and brother Larry.
Sandy was a 1966 graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School in West Point, Iowa. She then went on to receive her Nursing degree, and worked in the Burlington area. She met her husband Larry Hamm during her time in Burlington, and they were married on December 4, 1970. She then took on the role of being a Navy wife, they moved to Port Hueneme, California and Pascagoula, Mississippi. After Larry retired, they settled in Gautier, Mississippi, where they raised their two children: Joe and Tara. Sandy loved playing cards and taking care of stray animals especially kittens.
A private family burial will be held at a later date in West Point, Iowa.
