WEST BURLINGTON - Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission (SEIRPC) has named its board meeting room after long-time board chair, Brent Schleisman, who passed suddenly in December. He served as board chair from 2007-2025, the longest board chair tenure in SEIRPC's 53-year history. He also served as Mt Pleasant City Administrator for 32 years.
Schleisman was a key part of expanding the reach and impact of SEIRPC during his tenure, including adding two revolving loan fund pools, starting Great River Housing Trust Fund and Southeast Iowa Housing, Inc., secured permanent SERIPC office space and permanent parking space for SEIBUS.  His facilitation of board meetings and public input led to many positive interactions and productive outcomes for SEIRPC.
"For a generation, Brent was a local and regional leader," said Mike Norris, SEIRPC Executive Director. "His imagination and ability to partner led to many impactful local and regional projects. It's clear SEIRPC and southeast Iowa benefitted tremendously from his contributions and leadership as board chair. Naming the board room after him will help remind us of what productive long-term service and results look like."
SEIRPC is one of 17 Councils of Governments in Iowa. Established in 1973 by Des Moines, Henry, Lee and Louisa counties, SEIRPC manages regional programs and provides planning, grant writing/grant administration, and other consultative services for its local governmental members. SEIRPC has secured $320 million in outside funds for Southeast Iowa since 1973.
