LEE COUNTY - Holy Trinity’s softball team has a bye into the quarterfinals of the Class 1A Region 8 tournament in the pairings released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union on Thursday.
Central Lee will be on the road to open the Class 3A Region 8 tournament, while Fort Madison will be on the road to open the Class 4A Region 5 tournament.
A look at the brackets of the area teams.
CLASS 1A
The Crusaders (17-5) will play either Pekin (7-13) or WACO (1-14) at the Baxter Sports Complex in a quarterfinal game on July 8.
The rest of the Crusaders’ bracket has Seymour at Moravia in a first-round game on July 6, with the winner playing in a quarterfinal at ninth-ranked Wayne on July 8.
The winners of the two quarterfinals will meet in a semifinal on July 10 at Corydon.
The other side of the region bracket has Mormon Trail playing at Melcher-Dallas in a first-round game, with the winner playing at No. 8 Southeast Warren in the quarterfinals. Moulton-Udell plays at Twin Cedars in a quarterfinal, with the winner playing at Keota in the quarterfinals.
The regional final is July 13 at a site to be determined.
CLASS 3A
Central Lee (11-12) will be at eighth-ranked West Liberty (13-6) in a July 9 quarterfinal. The winner of that game will play either Davis County or Washington in a July 11 semifinal.
The rest of the quarterfinals in the Region 8 bracket have Mediapolis at 13th-ranked Centerville and Mid-Prairie at Fairfield.
CLASS 4A
Fort Madison (8-15) will play at Keokuk (0-21) in a July 9 quarterfinal. The winner will play at sixth-ranked North Scott in a semifinal on July 11.
The other side of the bracket has Clinton playing at Central DeWitt in the quarterfinals, with the winner playing at Burlington on July 11.
