Keokuk man convicted of voluntary manslaughter in fight with father

On April 26, 2024, Craig Rockenbach, 43, of Keokuk, was found guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter, a Class C Felony, in violation of Section 707.4 of the Iowa Criminal Code, by a jury of his peers. The charge carries a sentence of up to 10 years within the Iowa Department of Corrections. Sentencing will be held on June 17, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.
Rockenbach was arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor for a physical altercation that took place with his father Gary Rockenbach, 84, also of Keokuk, on January 22, 2024. Gary Rockenbach later succumbed to his injuries on February 1, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Craig Rockenbach was then charged with Murder in the Second Degree.
The Keokuk Police Department was the responding agency and lead the investigation on the case. This matter was prosecuted by the Lee County Attorney’s Office. Rockenbach is being held at the Lee County Jail.
