Sunday accident injures two on 218

Traffic stopped in both directions during clean-up

DONNELLSON - On Sunday evening, February 8, 2026, at approximately 7:33 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident involving a wrong-way driver on Highway 218 near the 1700 block.
Upon arrival, deputies located multiple vehicles involved with debris scattered across the roadway. One vehicle was located in the southbound median, and another was in the northbound ditch. Traffic was stopped in both directions due to the severity of the crash.
Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene where extrication was required for one occupant. Air medical services were initially placed on standby and later launched; however, after further evaluation, air transport was ultimately canceled.
Both occupants involved in the crash were conscious and sustained minor injuries. They were evaluated at the scene by Lee County EMS. Iowa State Patrol, Lee County Sheriff's deputies, and Donnellson Fire & Rescue assisted at the scene.
The two vehicles were towed from the scene and the accident remains under investigation.
