Sunday fire at Aztec ruled accidental

FORT MADISON - Fort Madison fire officials have ruled a Sunday morning fire at a trailer in Aztec Park accidental.
According to a release from Fort Madison Fire Chief Chad Hannum, at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, Fort Madison firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at Aztec Trailer Park.
Fire crews went enroute at 10:12 a.m. and arrived on scene at 10:16 a.m., where they observed smoke coming from a bathroom area within a single-wide trailer home.
Firefighters made entry and quickly located the fire in the bathroom. The fire was contained to that room and the area directly beneath the floor, but the remainder of the home sustained significant heat and smoke damage. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the incident, as the home had recently been sold and the new owner had not yet moved in. No injuries were reported.
Hannum said he wrapped up the investigation Monday morning and the fire appears to have been accidental in nature.
Firefighters were assisted on scene by the Fort Madison Police Department and Lee County EMS Ambulance.
