Trailways to end intercity bus routes

Travel firm looking for options for tours and charters.

Posted

BURLINGTON - Burlington Trailways will cease all intercity scheduled route service at the end of day September 27, 2025. Rural intercity bus service has become financially unsustainable due to outdated 5311(f) federal grant formulas, uncertainty and inconsistency regarding interline relationships, and the cost of bus insurance.
Burlington Trailways will operate all tours and charters scheduled through September 30, 2025. Burlington Trailways is in the process of obtaining a revised auto insurance quote with the intention of operating tours and charters into 2026. An answer to our insurance quote request is expected on or before October 1, 2025. At that time, we will be able to inform passengers of our ability to complete work. Should anything require cancellation, customers will receive notice and be refunded all monies paid.
Burlington Trailways has been present in the Southeast Iowa region since 1929. Ron and Lori Moore have owned the company since 1981. It has been an honor to serve our community. While we are deeply saddened by the discontinuation of our intercity scheduled route service, we are committed to continuing our tour, charter, and garage services as long as possible. We wish our employees the best in their future endeavors. Without their hard work and dedication, none of our accomplishments would have been possible.
