FORT MADISON - The High School show is an exhibition of high-quality student work, reflecting both excellence in instruction and the creativity of young people in our area. The quality of the work is always amazing and well worth stopping by to see. The high school exhibit will run from April 7 to the 30th with artwork arriving and being installed during the first week of April.
Meet area High School artists, their families and art instructors during the Opening Reception on Thursday, April 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the FMAAA Art Center located at 825 AVE G in Fort Madison. Art openings are always free and open to the public. The monthly exhibit at the FMAAA Art Center is underwritten by generous sponsorship. This month’s exhibit was made possible by Connection Bank.
The Annual High School Exhibition (and friendly competition) features artwork in watercolor, acrylic, and oils, as well as drawings and photography. In the past, students have also exhibited some interesting mixed media and digital art. Pottery (ceramics) and sculpture make up the majority of the 3D artwork on display, however, 3D mixed media and metal fabrication have also been in the mix during previous years.
Visiting monthly exhibits are always free at FMAAA Art Center. See the monthly exhibit in the Main Gallery, shorter duration shows in the MINI Gallery, and the wide selection of Member art available.
The FMAAA Art Center offers a variety of classes for youth and adults throughout the year. Cost of classes shouldn’t be a barrier for registration. Many of our youth classes have scholarships available for those who need them supported by donations and fundraising efforts. The FMAAA’s major annual fundraiser is the upcoming Artistry After Dark, an evening of arts and entertainment with an art auction. More information and tickets are available at the FMAAA Art Center (next to Fox Theater), from FMAAA Board Members and online at
