Weber heads to state in discus for Central Lee

Max Kruse advances out of Wednesday district golf

TIPTON - Central Lee's Aubrey Weber qualified for state in the discus with a throw of 109'1" at Thursday's Class 2A track and field qualifier at Tipton.
Weber will be seeded 17th at next week's state track meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
She will throw starting at 2 p.m. Friday in Des Moines.
 
Kruse qualifies for golf sectional
WINFIELD - Holy Trinity's Max Kruse qualified as an individual for Monday's 1A golf sectional at Oskaloosa. Kruse fired an 86 at Winfiled-Mt. Union tying him four fourth overall. The top two scorers outside of the top three teams at Thursday's district event advanced.
Brock Scheetz shot a 95, Nathan Box and Jameson Denning both carded 97s, Blake Mohrfeld was one shot back at 98 and Zane Houtz came in with a 99. WMU won the event with a 321.

Huebner qualifies for state in 400
MT. PLEASANT - Fort Madison's Charlie Huebner has qualified for the IGHSAU State Track and Field meet in the 400 meter dash. Huebner grabbed the final spot in the 24-girl field with a 1:03.39 and a strong kick at Mt. Pleasant's Class 3A qualifier Thursday night. She will run at 7:10 in the girls finals Thursday night at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.


LAMAR 5th at NJCAA regionals
HOBBS, N.M. - Dayton LaMar, a 2025 FMHS graduate, competed Friday in Hobbs, NM at the NJCAA Region 11 Outdoor Track National Championships. Lamar long jumped 24’6” and placed 5th receiveing All-American honors. Lamar placed 6th at the 2025 IHSAA State Track and Field meet.
 
Lady Chiefs fall to Mediapolis
MEDIAPOLIS - The Keokuk Lady Chiefs fell 3-1 to Mediapolis on the road Thursday night.
It appeared that Keokuk had taken an early lead in the first half but a goal was overturned by officials on a ruling in the net. The score was tied 0-0 at the half.  Relina Wong had four saves in the first half.  Bella Boltz had a shot on goal while Makenna Thomas had a first half shot. 
In the second half Mediapolis put the first goal on the board with 18:02 left in the game.  Keokuk would get a goal from Darby Tackes on her own rebound off a save by the Mediapolis goalkeeper with 10:57 left to play.  Mediapolis would add two more goals to set the final. Wong ended the game with 12 saves. Tackes had two shots on goal along with Lizzy Mason.  Bailey Palmer had a shot on goal.  Keokuk goes to 5-11 on the year and hosts Burlington Notre Dame on Monday.  They travel to Ft. Madison on Thursday, May 28th for the 1st round of regionals.  

14th ranked Lady Hounds win at Davenport North
DAVENPORT — Hadley Wolfe scored four goals as Fort Madison’s girls soccer team defeated Davenport North 7-1 on Friday night.
The 14th-ranked (Class 2A) Bloodhounds (11-1-1) extended their undefeated streak to nine matches with the win.
Wolfe scored three of her goals in the first half, then scored the Bloodhounds’ first goal of the second half. She has 38 goals this season, the most among players in Class 2A and fifth most among all players in Iowa. Chloe Butler added two goals and Halle Menke had a goal.  Kara Lake had two assists.
Fort Madison plays at Washington on Monday night before playing a rescheduled match at Notre Dame-West Burlington on Tuesday.

FM boys work tie at Newton
NEWTON - The FM boys went to Newton and salvaged a tie 1-1 Friday night
In the varsity game, Newton got on the scoreboard early, at 5:00 into the first half.  The Hounds tied it up 2:30 into the second half on a goal by Connor Horn. Keelynd Ross made two saves. 
The Hounds also tied the JV game 1-1. 
Fort Madison finishes the regular season with four ties this season going 9-4-4 (7-2-1 in Southeast Conference play) . They travel to North Scott to open regional play on May 27.

Hawk boys fall at Williamsburg
WILLIAMSBURG - The Central Lee boys fell to Williamsburg 1-0 in a tight match on the road Thursday night.
The Raiders and Hawks battled to a 0-0 tie at the end of the first half with the only goal coming on a Williamsburg penalty kick, the third in two games against the Hawks, with 12;59 left in the game.
Tristan Robins had 10 saves in the goal for the Hawks. 
Central Lee falls to 9-5 overall and has a 5-3 mark in the SEI Super Conference. They travel to Knoxville for the opening round of Class 2A Substate 5 action Monday for a 7 p.m. start.
