LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Wondra points to accomplishments

Posted

To the Editor,

I am announcing my candidacy for Lee County Supervisor, District 2. I believe Lee County deserves leadership that is accountable, guided by integrity, and willing to listen to the people it serves.
Last year, I stepped up to serve when I was appointed to the Board of Supervisors following Tom Schulz’s resignation. Since then, we have worked on several important issues facing Lee County.
One major accomplishment was passing a wind, solar, and battery storage ordinance that balances property rights, protects neighboring landowners and communities, and still allows opportunities for responsible business growth in Lee County.|Another major focus has been reducing property taxes. This year, the Board passed another 58-cent reduction in the tax levy rate, marking three consecutive years of reductions. Our goal remains lowering the levy rate to $3.50.
At the same time, I believe taxpayers deserve honest conversations about county finances. Following the largest property tax increase in county history four years ago, Lee County now has approximately a $10 million carryover balance and an additional reserve fund. While strong reserves are important, I believe we must continue looking for ways to return relief to taxpayers while maintaining responsible county services.

If elected, my priorities will include developing a long-term comprehensive plan for Lee County, improving operational efficiency, supporting quality-of-life projects that help strengthen our communities, diversifying county revenue sources, and working closely with state and federal legislators to advocate for Southeast Iowa.
I would appreciate your support in the Republican Primary and the opportunity to continue serving the citizens of Lee County.

Sincerely,

 Tim Wondra D.C.
