FORT MADISON - Do you feel the need to speed? Slow down because it could cost you!
In the past few years there has been an increase in risk-taking and careless driving. No matter how advanced you think your driving skills may be, speeding is dangerous. Obeying posted speed limits keeps drivers and passengers safe. Local roads are more dangerous than highways for speeders. We are asking you to slow down in your neighborhoods and on your local roads. You need to always obey the posted speed limits. Young people and motorcyclists are especially susceptible to high speeds and they represent the largest demographics involved in speed-related crashes.
The Fort Madison Police Department is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to remind drivers to stop speeding and will be hosting a speeding campaign on Saturday, August 1, 2026.
We our asking our community to please slow down and obey the posted signs. We want everyone to be stay safe.
