Joe Shuman 72, of Keokuk passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at his home.
He was born March 19, 1953 in Keokuk, IA the son of Robert Joseph and Mary Louise Neves Shuman.
He graduated from Keokuk Senior High School.
Joe was united in marriage to Lois Jean Thurman in Las Vegas, NV.  She preceded him in death on June 10, 2023. 
Joe had been employed by Roquette America for over thirty years until his retirement.
He was known for his dedication to the Keokuk City of Christmas Display of Lights, where he volunteered countless hours to create a beautiful holiday experience for the community. For more than 25 years, Joe’s hard work made the season bright for Keokuk residents, earning him the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 2021.
He was also a member of Keokuk Racers Reunion.  He owned Shuman Racing Enterprise.  Joe worked on NASCAR pit crews in his earlier years before returning to Keokuk and working at Roquette.
He is survived by one son, Cheyenne Mewes of Wapello and one grandson, Braden Mewes.  He is also survived by five sisters, Donna Davidson of Warsaw, Linda Hendricks of Hamilton, Kelley Gilbert (Delbert) of Keokuk, Rose Moore of Donnellson, Kim Vradenberg of Donnellson, four brothers, Jim Shuman of Virginia, Tony Shuman of Hamilton, Rick Shuman of Keokuk, Mark Shuman of Wayland, one sister-in-law, Linda Shuman of Keokuk, one brother-in-law, Tom Carskdon of Keokuk and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Joe was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.    
A gathering of remembrance will be held from 4 - 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the Vigen Memorial Home Keokuk.
A private burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Keokuk City of Christmas Display of Lights or Keokuk Racers Reunion.
