MOUNT PLEASANT – Aubrey Weber broke her own school record in the discus Thursday night in Mt. Pleasant at the Denny White Relays.
Aubrey spun a 115’9” throw to take 2nd at the relays. The Hawks' boys and girls set 21 personal bests at the annual relays.
Brett Cook almost broke the 1-minute barrier in the 400 hurdles at 1:01. Caden Crozier ran a 5:24.54 in the 1600 and the boys' Sprint Medley team of Kain Arrowood, Cook, Blake Davis, and Evan Fogarty ran a 1:41.37, a personal best for that grouping.
On the girls' side, Allison Grunmeir ran the 400 hurdles in 1:18.93, her best time and good enough for 3rd place. Kaitlyn Morrison ran a 28.54 200-meter dash and Adalyn Dill ran a personal best 20.24 in the 100 hurdles.
Hawks take out WACO in boys' soccer
WAYLAND – Peter Seyb scored two goals, his seventh and eighth of the year Thursday night as the Hawks shutout WACO 3-0 in Wayland.
Seyb, currently tied for 17th in the state in goals scored, found the net with about 8 minutes left in the first half to break open a scoreless game. He got a ball from Mason Sanders on the play.
Sanders would then open the scoring in the second half with a goal 8.5 minutes into the period on an assist by Korbin Wilson. Seyb would wrap up the scoring halfway through the second period off an assist from Colton Taft.
Tristan Robins had a save in the shutout as the Hawk defense kept WACO in check most of the game.
Boyer, Benda shoot 42s at Mt. Pleasant
MOUNT PLEASANT – Colton Boyer and Rowan Benda each shot a 42 to lead Fort Madison to a 4th place finish at the Mt. Pleasant rotation of Southeast Conference boys' golf.
The Hounds finished with a 177 over the nine holes just a stroke off Fairfield’s 176 and eight strokes out of a top-3 finish.
Washington won the event with a 156 with the Demons’ Rajan Roth again finishing as medalist with a 33. Carson Brown was runner-up for Washington with a 39.
Cole Quittem carded a 44 for the Bloodhounds while Lucas Helmick shot a 49 to round out the scoring golfers. Jared Jenkins came in with a 50 and Connor Cale shot a 57 for Fort Madison.
Keokuk finished 5th with a 180 total led by Ashton Snodgrass’ 40. Luke Amers shot a 46, his best nine of the year for the Chiefs. Carter Land had a 47 and Kyler Beelman shot a 47.
Crusaders 8th at Mohawk Invite
ALBIA – Brock Scheetz led the Crusader boys' golf team with a spiffy 85 at the Mohawk Invitational Thursday in Albia.
Scheetz' 13 over par helped HTC to a 364, seven strokes off seventh-place Centerville. Pleasantville won the event with a 314. Zane Houtz shot a 92 and Nathan Box came in with a 93 for the top three for Holy Trinity. Blake Mohrfeld rounded out the scoring golfers with a 94.
Caleb Rea shot a 97 and Max Kruse came in with a 98.
Keokuk girls fall on road at Fairfield
FAIRFIELD - Keokuk drops to 2-4 (1-2 in conference) after losing at Fairfield 1-9. This was the Hawks' sixth game in 11 days. Keokuk's goal came from Bella Boltz on a free kick with 11:57 remaining in the second half. Relina Wong had eight saves in 64 minutes and Makenna Thomas had two saves in 16 minutes. The Chiefs play at Washington on Thursday before a Saturday tournament at Centerville where the Chiefs take on Centerville at 9:30 a.m. and Grinnell at 1:30 p.m.
