MONTROSE – One individual was airlifted to an area hospital Wednesday morning as a result of a three-vehicle accident north of Wever on Hwy. 61.
A front end-loader was northbound in the right lane of the highway, according to a Lee County Sheriff’s release. A pick-up with hazard lights flashing was behind the tractor when a vehicle struck the pick-up from behind, causing a collision with the tractor.
According to the release, deputies determined that a van struck the pick-up truck from behind after trying to avoid the vehicle. The driver didn’t realize the slower rate of speed of the tractor and pickup and couldn’t react in time to avoid a collision.
Both lanes of traffic were closed temporarily as a MedForce helicopter arrived to transport one individual by air with injuries. No other injuries were reported in the initial release.
Lee County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the incident.
