FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Family YMCA is excited to bring this 8-Week Program back to Fort Madison! Girls on the Run is a nationally recognized program where hundreds of communities across the United States bring together pre-teen girls to help them develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games, culminating in a fun, celebratory 5k Run/Walk.
The Fort Madison Y has specifically designed this 8-week program to empower, enrich, and enhance the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of area girls grades 3rd through 5th. Lead by certified Girls on the Run Head Coaches, Jordyn Meierotto and Becca Ruble, along with Junior Coach, Jordyn Burch.
Over the course of the program, girls will develop and improve competence, establish confidence in who they are, develop character strength, respond to others and oneself with compassion and care, ignite positive connections with peers and adults, and make a meaningful contribution to our community and society at-large through a team created and executed community service project. The program will conclude on Saturday, September 2nd with our fun 5k (3.1 mile) Run/Walk Rodeo Stampede where our teams will come together to
celebrate the skills and abilities the girls have obtained over the course of the program.
Program participation cost is $75 and includes 16 lessons conducted by our certified GOTR coaches, an official GOTR t-shirt, participation in the season-ending 5K for your GOTR participant, a GOTR water bottle, and a snack at each practice. In addition, each participant will receive a 5K finisher’s medal.
No girl is turned away due to their inability to afford the cost of the program. Through the generosity of our community partners, the Fort Madison Family YMCA offers financial assistance to those in need. To fill out an application for assistance please stop by the YMCA during regular office hours. Registration deadline is Friday, July 7th. Forms are available online at fortmadisony.org or stop by the Fort Madison Family YMCA during regular office hours.
A Facebook Group has been created where coaches and participant families can share updates and photos. You can find the link to the Facebook Group on the Fort Madison Family YMCA’s Facebook Page.
