2nd half dooms Hounds in Quincy

QUINCY - A second-half let down gave the Fort Madison Bloodhounds their second loss in two games against Illinois opponents this year.

Unity of Quincy shut down the Hounds in the second half en route to a 58-50 win in a make-up game from Dec. 17.

The Hounds, who had won 6 of the last 7 games going into Saturday's game, relied on junior Caleb Cresswell and senior CJ Richardson for 26 of the teams 28 first-half points including 19 from Cresswell.

Lorenzo Riles had the only other points for the Hounds in the first half with a bucket in the second quarter. but the Hounds had an eight point lead 28-20 at the end of the half.

Unity's Corey Miller got hot in the second half for Unity and almost single-handedly pulled the game out for Unity as the Hounds had no answer for him in the fourth quarter. Miller threw up 14 points in the final period and had 21 in the second half.

FMHS was outscored 21 to 12 in the final period dashing the Hounds hope for winning 7 of 8.

Cresswell finished with 22 points followed by Richardson's 12. Austin Rose had 5 and Logan Rashid added four. Treavor Kokjohn had 3 points and Riles and Landon Bentley each added a bucket.

The Hounds travel to Kahoka for a battle with Missouri foe Clark County on Tuesday and then host 4th ranked Mt. Pleasant in a conference rematch on Friday at home. The Panther's are 12-2 on the year and undefeated in the loop. Their only losses have come to Cedar Rapids Xavier and Muscatine. The Panthers handed the Bloodhounds a 64-38 defeat on Jan. 10.
