FMHS grapplers start season with dual win

QUINCY, Ill. - The Fort Madison Bloodhounds started the season on a winning note edging Quincy High School on the road 40-35 Wednesday night.

Senior Sam Hayes, who was rated as high as 9th in the state last year in an injury-shortened season, started a string of pins for Fort Madison with a fall over QHS' JC Lackey in 1:09 at 195 lbs. in the first match of the night. Junior Diego Lozano then followed with a quick :53 pin of Lucas Bodi at 220. Junior Danen Settles continued the streak of quick falls with a 1:01 pin of AJ Miller at the heavyweight 285 lb division.

The Bloodhounds Owen Kruse recorded the fourth fall in a row when he dumped Dalton Vallee in 1:35 at 106 lbs.

Quincy started to then turn the tables recording three wins in a row including a 3-0 decision by Hunter Carter at 120 lbs over the Bloodhounds Dayne Cordray who went to the state tournament last year as a junior.

FMHS's Gavin Wiseman got a pin at 126 over Brayden Oenning at 4:47 and Will Larson scored a major decision over Carson Neally 10-1 at 132. Mason Schau would get the last win for FM with a pin in 2:34 of Matthew Peters at 138 lbs. Quincy would win the last five matches of the night, four by pin, but couldn't muster enough up points to catch the Bloodhounds.
