FORT MADISON – A multi-state service outage is currently under investigation by a nationwide telephone and communications company.
CenturyLink reported outages beginning this afternoon across several states and a spokesperson for the company said the issue is currently under investigation, but couldn’t discuss the parameters of the outage or any timelines for resumed services.
Linda Johnson, CenturyLink corporate communications manager told the Pen City Current Thursday afternoon that she couldn’t comment on the details of the outage other than to say it was a multi-state issue.
Johnson sent out two statements Thursday afternoon with limited information.
“The CenturyLink network is still experiencing a disruption affecting customer services. The CenturyLink technical teams will continue to work until services are restored,” Johnson said in an email at about 4:40 p.m. CST, from her offices in Washington D.C.
An initial statement sent out at about 3:35 said help tickets were also being affected.
“Our network is experiencing a disruption affecting customer services. We understand some customers are currently unable to generate tickets through the CenturyLink help portal. We know how important these services are to our customers and we are working to restore services as quickly as possible,” the statement read.
An official at Fort Madison City Hall said they were not having any phone issues.
Des Moines County was experiencing long-distance issues for a better part of the afternoon.
The Pen City Current tried to reach three different CenturyLink media contacts for additional information on the outage. One referred all inquiries to Johnson, the other two contacts’ mailboxes were full and weren’t accepting messages.
According to the CenturyLink Facebook page, customers from a variety of states, including Missouri, Ohio, Idaho and New Mexico, registered complaints on the CenturyLink Facebook page.
