Hancock County puts sex offender in prison

CARTHAGE – A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty in Hancock County to having a sexual relationship with a 13-year old.

Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger reported the arrest and conviction of Jonathan D. Singletary on Wednesday.

Singletary was arrested on a Hancock County warrant in the state of Georgia on April 23, 2019 for the charge of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. Singletary was subsequently extradited back to Hancock County, IL.

The charges stem from an investigation by Hancock County deputies into a report received on April 17, 2019 that Singletary had engaged in a sexual relationship with a 13 year old juvenile.

On Monday July 8, 2019 Singletary pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Advocacy Network for Children, the Hancock County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services.

All subjects are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
