Lady Crusaders fall behind early at MEPO

MEDIAPOLIS – Sophomore Kassi Randolph had a season-high 13 points in Holy Trinity’s 39-67 loss to Mediapolis Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders got behind early as Mediapolis raced out to a 23-9 first quarter lead. HTC settled in in the second and third quarters and kept pace with the 7-1 Lady Bulldogs.

The first quarter deficit coupled with a collapse in the fourth quarter where Mediapolis outscored the Crusaders 20-9 proved to be too much to recover from.

“We dug ourselves a big hole early with some mental mistakes and never recovered from it,” Head Coach Tony Johnson said.

Avery Hopper and Bailey Hellweg each had nine points for HTC. Ashlyn Haas scored four while Raquel Schneider and Brooke Mueller each added a bucket.

Sophomore Hallie Mohr led Mediapolis with 23 points on 8 of 17 shooting from the field. Helaine Hillyard added 17 for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Crusaders go into the break 4-4 on the year after losing three of the last four games. They’re off now until Jan. 3 when theyt travel to West Burlington (6-1).

“On the positive side we are 4-4 going into the break all to good teams. We know what we need to work on and we will do better after the break,” Johnson said.

“I know the girls aren’t satisfied with our play right now. A lot of inexperienced kids are playing new spots and have different roles this year. I’m pleased with our very young players.”
