DONNELLSON – The song remains the same for Central Lee.
They have a Mya Merschman and you have to stop her.
Danville’s girls did a good job in the first half holding Merschman to just nine points, but the junior broke free in the second half putting up 20, 11 in the fourth quarter to help the Lady Hawks to a 48-40 Southeast Iowa Superconference win Thursday at home.
Central Lee led throughout the game, by as much as 16 deep into the third period, but Danville chipped away at the Lady Hawks in fourth quarter and was within 10 with just under three minutes left in the game.
The Bears’ Ava and Bella Smith combined for three 3-balls in the final period to help reduce Central Lee’s lead, but Merschman would score four times from the field and added three more free throws down the stretch to give Central Lee the win.
Central Lee’s only other points in the period came from Ella Sanders who converted a couple free throws.
