Dr. Michael David- from FMCH Home Health & Hospice
FMCH Hospice was just forming when he first came to FMCH and Dr. David had been a Hospice Medical Director in his career.  He wholeheartedly offered to be our first Hospice Medical Director.  What an answer to very real down on your knees prayers!  Over and over he has shared his caring, his knowledge, his expertise, his sense of humor, his faith and his compassion with the FMCH Hospice team which in turn was shared with our Hospice patients and their families.  Hospice team meetings are about the plan of care for the physical, emotional, spiritual and social journey for the entire family as they say good bye to each other.  There is beautiful and meaningful discussion around that plan of care during team meetings.  Laughter and tears are common.  And he was here for all of that as a team who truly wanted to serve families at this time in life came together and learned together.  The Hospice team has learned so much from him.  He took the time to listen to them, made them feel important and shared his wealth of knowledge repeatedly.  Every single family he has touched through the Hospice team has benefitted and the end of life journey and its’ pain and beauty was softened and brightened at the same time.  The Hospice team thanks him from the very bottom of their hearts.  He truly is an angel and will someday hear “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21)
Dr. Michael David – from FMCH Family Practice Clinic
Dr. David came to Fort Madison Community Hospital to serve.  Dr. David committed to 3 years of service to a small hospital in southeast Iowa. Family practice physicians who want to practice in small Midwestern towns are few and far between. He knew that and decided this was where God was leading him to serve.  And serve he did. From the first day he joined our FMCH team he has been a strong and steady leader. His commitment to his patients is evident every single day.  His devotion goes above and beyond. He listens and really hears his patients and their families. He models care and compassion. The loving care to each of his Nursing Home patients has been such a comfort to their loved ones.
His vast knowledge, patience and ability to teach us has allowed us to grow these last 3 years. His willingness to help with each and every need has not gone unnoticed and has been greatly appreciated by everyone—patients and staff alike.
Dr. David’s wonderful humor will be greatly missed and remembered fondly. This guardian angel will keep a piece of him with us and keep a piece of us with him always.

“A big thank you to you! You meet everyone with a smile and a great attitude of helpfulness. You are the ones that put yourselves in possible danger every time a person comes through the door.  You are there to keep the rest of the employees and all that pass through the screening stations safer each day.” Thank you for all you do every day to keep all of us safe.
The Guardian Angel program allows patients to recognize outstanding FMCH employees by giving a monetary donation to the FMCH Foundation. Employees receiving the honor are awarded a Guardian Angel pin and certificate.
