Lady Hounds pick up two wins in loss to BHS


BURLINGTON – The Fort Madison girls picked up two wins in singles competition, their first two wins of the year, but fell in team scoring 7-2 to Burlington at Dankwardt Park Monday night in Southeast Conference girls tennis action.

Molly Knipe got her first win at No. 1 singles over the Grayhounds Kayla Norton 8-4, while Camille Kruse scored an 8-2 win over Grace Hecox playing at No. 4 singles.

Burlington would win the remaining singles and all the double matches.

“We are getting closer. We saw some good things tonight,” said Head Coach Jeremy Swink.

“We were missing a number of girls for a few different reasons, and still were competitive. We had some very close points, and battles and I’m proud of how we played tonight.”

Jessica Kendall edged Rachel Hellman 8-6 at No 2 singles and Emily Woodsmall beat Kayla Kruse 8-4 at No. 3 Emily Mosley would shut out the Bloodhounds’ Elizabeth Stuekerguergen 8-0 and Jacqui Workman downed Fort Madison’s Lauren Otte 8-3 at No. 6 singles.

In doubles action, Norton and Kendall beat Knipe and Hellman 8-2 at No. 1. Kruse and Kruse fell 8-5 to Woodsmall and Hecox, while Mosley and Workman downed Otte and Stuekerguergen 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.

The Bloodhounds are 0-3 on the season and play host to Mt. Pleasant Thursday night.
