Fort Madison falls to Keokuk 1-6 Tuesday
FORT MADISON - Junior Molly Knipe held off Mt. Pleasant's Savanna Walls Monday night as the Lady Hound moved over .500 on the year in girls high school tennis.
Knipe won 8-5 for her fourth match win of the year at No. 1 singles.
Brianna Wright played at No. 2 singles for the first time and lost 8-4 to the Chief's Melanie Olivas. Kayla Kruse won 8-6 over Keokuk's Malena Yocum. Elizabeth Stuekerjuergen lost at No. 4 singles to Eliana Situmeang 6-8.
Fort Madison then got wins on the Nos. 5 and 6 courts with Lauren Otte downing Victoria Smith 8-5 and Naudia Ruston winning at No. 6 singles 8-2.
Knipe and Wright fell in doubles action to Walls and Olivas 2-8, but Kruse and Stuekerjuergen got a win at No. 2 doubles 8-5, and Ruston and Otte won at No. 3 doubles over Smith and Mary Peterson 8-0.
Fort Madison lost to Davis County to start the year, but then won three straight before taking 5th place at the Fort Madison Invitational last weekend.
Knipe is 4-3 on the year in matches and sets with a 38-40 game record. Kruse is 0-1 at No. 2 singles with a 3-8 game record, but is 3-3 in the No. 3 slot with a 31-42 game record through Monday.
Otte is 2-0 at No. 4 and 0-1 playing up at No. 3 with a 20-40 game record. Stuekerjuergen is 1-3 with an 18-32 game record at No. 5 and Ruston is 2-2 at No. 5 singles with a 22-24 game mark. She's 1-1 at No. 6 with a winning 11-10 game record on the year.
