FORT MADISON – The body found in a creek bed behind Vinnie’s Longbranch last week has been identified, however the cause of the death hasn’t been determined.
The body was identified Friday morning as 39-year-old Jeffery Allen Moore, who was reported missing on Oct. 13 of this year.
According to Fort Madison Police Chief Cody Potthast, initial investigations would hint there doesn’t seem to be foul play involved, but he couldn’t say definitively because of the decomposed condition of the body when discovered on the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 2 in Fort Madison.
Potthast said an autopsy has been ordered for additional information in the case. He said the identification was revealed on social media, before police were officially notified and the investigation continues.
Moore, a 5’10”, 175lbs. black male was last seen at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 13, 2024 in the 2400 block of Avenue L.
According to police, Moore suffered from a severe mental health diagnosis and was not believed to be in possession of his medication when he was determined to be missing.
His obituary appears in today’s edition and family and friends are invited to celebrate Jeff’s life with a potluck meal at 12:00 pm/noon on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Shopton Park, 29th and Avenue O, Fort Madison.
