Candidate carries more than three decades of service - Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

As a recently retired educator with over 36 years in the Fort Madison Community School District, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside incredible students, staff, and families. My career has been rooted in service— through teaching, mentoring, grant writing, union advocacy, and leadership roles in PTO, bond initiatives, and the National Education Association. Now, I’m seeking to continue that service as a member of the Fort Madison Community School District School Board.
I believe our schools thrive when decisions are made with empathy, transparency, and collaboration. My vision includes fostering a positive school climate that is brain-aligned, student-centered, and educator-empowered. I will advocate for policies that protect instructional time, support teacher collaboration, and reflect both community values and educational standards.
I also believe the budget is a reflection of our priorities. As a board member, I will work to ensure financial decisions support the well-being of students and staff, and that our community remains informed and involved.

Curricular choices, staffing support, and school culture should all reflect the heart of Fort Madison. I’m committed to listening first, leading with integrity, and building bridges between families, educators, and district leadership.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve. I’m ready to bring my experience, compassion, and dedication to the board—and to continue advocating for the future of our schools.
Sincerely,

Rachella Dravis
