FORT MADISON - Fort Madison Mayor Matt Mohrfeld wants your vote, even before Nov. 7.
The mayor is pushing to get Fort Madison a coveted Iowa League of Cities All-Star Community Award and it all hinges on Facebook votes.
The city’s dog park is up against a Waukee Splash pad, but the winner is determined by “likes” and “loves” on the League’s Facebook page.
Residents who would like to vote to support the city can do so by clicking the following link and then selecting both a “like” and a “love” reaction after clicking the dog park picture.

You can also access the photo on Mohrfeld’s Facebook page where he posted about the contest.
“We're in the finals!!!!! DON'T like my page---Click on the dog park and like and also love it. Put us over the top!! We need another 1000 likes and loves,” the mayor wrote.
The dog park description on the League’s Facebook page, which is where you land after clicking on the photo of the dark park said the new addition to the park is a natural fit for the community.
“The Fort Madison Parks, Recreation, and Docks Board were looking for a way to repurpose two unused slow pitch softball fields at Fort Madison's Rodeo Park. Citizens had previously suggested a dog park and it seemed a natural fit to turn one of the softball fields into a dog park. The location featured already had a parking area and playground equipment located on the other side of the road.
The project with the most likes or love will determine the All-Star Community. Voting took place in rounds; city projects with the most likes and loves in the current week’s photo album moved onto the next round. The final round will close on Thursday, September 21. The People’s All-Star Community Award winner will be announced at the Annual Conference & Exhibit in Cedar Rapids during the award ceremony.
