MEDIAPOLIS – Holy Trinity junior Luke Hellige hit for his average in the Crusaders 56-29 win over Mediapolis Monday night on the road in a Southeast Iowa Superconference South Division boys basketball game.
Hellige is averaging 23.7 points per game and went for 24 as the Crusaders improve to 13-4 on the year and 9-3 in loop play.
It was all Holy Trinity from the start as the Crusaders rushed to a 13-4 first quarter lead. They needed that quick start in the first half as the Bulldogs came back to cut the lead to seven at the half outscoring HTC 8-6 in the second period. Hellige had 11 of the Crusaders 19 points in the first half.
Holy Trinity then broke out for 22 points in the third period. Conner Gehling had nine and Hellige put up eight points in that period to lead HTC. Gehling finished with 19 points for the Crusaders. Adam Sobczak, the state’s current leader in assists had six points, while Maddox Rung hit for five. Koby Jones had a bucket in the fourth quarter for his two points.
Jackson Hutcheson led Mediapolis with eight points.
Holy Trinity host Central Lee tonight in a girls/boys doubleheader for Senior Night at Shottenkirk Gymnasium.
