Mary Tammy Sue Penrose, 64, of Keokuk, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at her home in Keokuk.
Tammy was born on June 16, 1962, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence D. Penrose and Mary Ann (Reynolds) Hicks. A creative and spiritual person, Tammy used those gifts to bless others through her work as a staff aid at the Lee County Group Home for over ten years. Tammy had a gift for arts and crafts, creating beautiful wall pieces and floral arrangements. She was also a talented writer, putting pen to paper.
Tammy was an avid reader, especially enjoyed fantasy books such as her favorite, Harry Potter. Tammy was good at just about anything she did. And while she will be remembered for the wonderful meals she cooked for friends and family alike, Tammy will be most remembered by the lifelong friendships she made with those around her.
Tammy is survived by her mother Mary Ann Hicks of Keokuk; five children: Mary Christina Susanna McClain of Keokuk, Mary Leanne Michelle Penrose of Burlington, North Carolina, Robert Aaron Lawrence (Kelsey) Glasgow of Forest City, North Carolina, and Robert Lawrence Delaney of Burlington, Iowa; her brother Rex (Hannah Little) Hicks of Columbia, Missouri; her aunt Bobbie (Jeff) Helmick of Warsaw, Illinois; her step-mother Margaret Penrose; her step-brother Michael Juarez; her sister-in-law Christine Penrose; nine grandchildren: Payton, Caroline, Ethan, Braydon, Andrew, Emerson, Lauren, Neyla and Kaydon; and many cousins.
Tammy is preceded in death by her father Lawrence, her brother Joseph John Penrose and her best friend Mindy Hagerty.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Rand Park in Keokuk.
Anyone attending is welcome to bring food.
