LEE COUNTY – A Florida man was killed and a Missouri man injured this weekend as a result of a collision at a north Lee County intersection.
On Saturday, LeeComm dispatchers sent emergency crews to the intersection of Hwys. 218 and 16 in north Lee County at approximately 12:08 a.m.
A vehicle driven by Josue Alexander Boton Pinula, 24, of Middleburg, Fla., was headed westbound at the intersection and failed to obey the median stop sign on 218. As he proceeded through the intersection, a white 1995 Kenworth tractor/trailer driven by Paul Douglas White, 68, of Patterson, Mo. for North American, was headed southbound and struck Pinula, who was driving a white 2017 BMW.
Pinula was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported by Schmitz Link Funeral Home.
White was also injured in the crash and was transported to Henry County Hospital by Lee County EMS Ambulance.
Lee County Sheriff’s deputies, Iowa State Patrol, Lee County EMS, and the Lee County Medical Examiner assisted at the scene.
