FORT MADISON - Once Upon a Wednesday
There are a lot more school early out days over the next few months so we have made some changes to our program, including the names. Wacky Wednesday will now be ‘Once Upon a Wednesday’. Once Upon a Wednesday you can still make crafts but there will also be so much more. Once upon a Wednesday you can play games with friends or family including oversized Jenga and Checkers and board games like break the ice or pass the pigs. We will have mini cooking days, a chance to make your own snacks. We will also be adding movie days, popcorn included. See the library calendar of events for specific event details.
Blind Date with a Book 2022
Why not go on a blind date with a book? There will be a display of books introducing themselves with their first sentence at the library during February. The books will be wrapped in plain paper so you won’t know the title, author or genre, though you may have a rough idea of how long it is based on size. All you can see is those first few intriguing words. That first sentence that can hook you and set the tone for the rest of the book. Pick a book that seems tantalizing, check it out and take it home to unwrap it and read it. Don’t like the book you picked? No problem, stop reading and return it. There won’t be a quiz and nobody’s feelings will be hurt. The book won’t care and librarians understand that people’s tastes in books vary. However, on the other hand, you might also find your next favorite book or author and this is a great opportunity to try reading out of your comfort zone.
