Keokuk man arrested after Sunday shooting incident

No one reported injured as a result of altercation near Morgan and 12th in Keokuk

KEOKUK -  A Keokuk man has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident that occurred near Morgan and 12th Streets in Keokuk Sunday evening.
No injuries were reported as a result of the alleged shooting.
According to a report from Keokuk police, at approximately 10:36 p.m., two Keokuk Police officers were on a traffic stop near 12th and Morgan Streets. While on the traffic stop, they heard what they believed to be two distinct gunshots. The officers ended the traffic stop and began searching the area for the origin of the gunshots.
While searching the area, one of the officers was flagged down by multiple occupants of a vehicle. These occupants indicated that an individual residing at 512 N. 11th Street had fired a pistol at them while they were in a vehicle. While speaking with the officer, a male individual came from the area of the 500 block of  North 11th Street. This subject was identified as the alleged shooter of the pistol.
Emmanuel Jose Sanchez, 28, of Keokuk, was arrested and charged with three counts of Initimidation With A Dangerous Weapon, a Class D Felony. He was transported to the Lee County Jail to await a court appearance.
During the course of this investigation, a search warrant was applied for and received for a home in the 500 block of N. 11th Street. Items that support the charges were discovered during the service of this search warrant. A search of the area in close proximity to the altercation was completed, with additional items that support the charges being discovered. A .40 caliber handgun, ammunition, and a spent shell casing were seized as evidence.
This is believed to be a targeted occurrence with no ongoing threat to the public.
An arrest is merely an accusation supported by probable cause. All defendants should be and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in the court of law.
