Keokuk man charged with attempted murder in slashing incident

Incident occurred at Shady Acres Trailer Park near Keokuk Wednesday

MONTROSE –  Lee County sheriff’s deputies have charged a Lee County man with attempted murder following an incident Wednesday night at Shady Acres Trailer Park.
According to a release from Lee County Sheriff Elliott Vandenberg, deputies responded to a report of an individual being cut with a knife that had orginated through LeeComm 911 as a medical call. When deputies arrived, they determined that a physical altercation had occurred between two males that were in a relationship.

Prior to the deputies arrival, one of the males, Kurtis Russell, 40, of Keokuk, had allegedly retrieved a knife and inflicted multiple injuries to the other male, including lacerations to the head and one to the neck. The victim's name wasn't released
Russell was taken into custody and is being held in the Lee County Jail on a charge of attempted murder. The victim was transported for medical treatment and is currently in stable condition.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
