King-Lynk Funeral Home obituary - George J. Sugars, 87, Fort Madison

George J. Sugars, age 87 of Ft. Madison of passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 9:45 AM at the Montrose Health Center.
He was born on November 19, 1936 in Ft. Madison to Roy and Ina Winch Sugars.  On May 1, 1965 George married Rita Mettenburg and she passed away on March 14, 1998.  George worked for Benner Tea Company, the Aldi’s warehouse and retired from Merschman Seed Co.  George was a member of Sacred Heart Church.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the casino.
Survivors include one son, Tim (Diane) Sugars of Montrose; two grandchildren, Tyler (Hayley Weber) and Abby Sugars; one great grandson, Torin and one on the way; one brother, Harlan (Judy) Sugars of Denmark; nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, sister, Mary Carlson and a brother, Bernard Sugars.
The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Gary Beckman officiating.  The family will meet with friends from 9 AM until the time of the service at the church.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
