King-Lynk Funeral Home obituary - Mark D. Simmons, 85, Fort Madison

Mark D. Simmons, of Ft. Madison, IA, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 9:20 AM at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics.
He was born on September 29, 1939 in Emmetsburg, IA to Carl Truman and Louise Henrietta Rholfs Simmons.  On April 11, 1959 Mark married Shirley Marie Danker in Charleston, SC.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1958-1962. Mark was a car man for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and retired after twenty-five years of service.  He was a member of the Ft. Madison United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing his yard and camping with Shirley.   Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Simmons of Ft. Madison; three daughters, Lori Glisan of Ft. Madison, Katrina (Tony) Smith of Denmark and Teresa (Charlie) Milligan of Montrose; eight grandchildren, Heather Glisan, Savannah Strunk, Mark Smith, Michael Smith, Lacie Conrad, Jaimie Glisan, Jessica Ellis and Joshua Milligan; sixteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Ethel, Carl, Avis, Junie and Joe and his mother and father-in-law, William and Nellie Danker.
Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.  The family will meet with friends from 9:30-11:00 AM on Thursday, December 12, 2024  at King-Lynk Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Nancy St. Clair officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Soldiers’ Circle, Oakland Cemetery.
