Lee County Cancer forum set for June 12

Health experts invite community to consortium on Lee County's cancer rates

FORT MADISON - The Iowa Cancer Registry and University of Iowa College of Public Health, in collaboration with the Iowa Cancer Consortium, University of Iowa Health Care Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Iowa Rural Health Association, is hosting the Cancer in Iowa: 99 Counties Project to present county-specific cancer information and address community concerns in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.
The meeting for Lee County is on Friday, June 12 at 3:30pm. Local residents, public health officials, community leaders, and policy makers are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion. Representatives from the 99 Counties Project will share the latest cancer data related to Lee County and provide residents an opportunity to voice concerns or suggestions for improving cancer outcomes in the community. Registered is recommended, especially if attending virtually. There will be an in-person set-up at the Lee County Health Department, located at the Meller Family Health Center at 5001 Avenue O, Fort Madison.
About the Cancer in Iowa: 99 Counties Project
The 99 Counties Project is a public health initiative at enhancing cancer education and community engagement across Iowa’s 99 counties. Reports containing information about the rates of new cancers and cancer deaths in each county compared to the state of Iowa and the US, as well as risk factor data from the CDC’s Behavioral Rish Factor Surveillance System, will be presented to each county. There will be time allotted to listening to the questions, concerns, and ideas of community members.
Guest speakers will include Whitney Zahnd, PhD, Past-president of the Iowa Rural Association and Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa Department of Health Management and Policy.
